Why this site exists
About Ircania
Ircania.com is a small, independent reference site dedicated to one historical region: Hyrcania, on the south-eastern shore of the Caspian Sea.
Scope
The name Hyrcania shows up in scattered places — a line of Latin poetry, a satrapy list in a Persian inscription, an old label on a European map of the Caspian Sea — but rarely in one connected account. This site brings those threads together into a short, readable overview: a history timeline, a geography page, and a look at the region's recurring cultural motifs.
Approach to sources
Content here is written from public historical and geographical scholarship and general reference works, aimed at a curious general reader rather than a specialist. Where history is genuinely uncertain or disputed among historians, we've tried to say so rather than flatten it into a single confident claim.
What this site is not
This is not the website of a government, a modern place called Hyrcania, or any tourism board — no such entity exists today. It is not affiliated with any research institution. It's a reference project, kept intentionally small.
